Massive Shopping Mall Collapse Traps Many in Kumamoto, Japan Earthquake

On the 28th, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. Part of the second floor of the "JW Marble World Park Kumamoto," a large shopping mall in Kasumigata, was collapsed, trapping many people.

According to the latest report from the Japanese Broadcasting Association on the evening of the 28th, the police said that 20 to 30 employees at the mall have gone missing.

According to local media in Kumamoto, a 'significant number of deaths' have been identified. Due to the complex situation at the scene, it will take some time to determine the exact number of deaths.

Previously, an explosion was suspected in this mall, and white smoke was emitted.

The total construction area of this mall is approximately 120,000 square meters. It features supermarkets, restaurants, clothing stores, a cinema, and hot spring facilities.
