Xi Jinping & Lula Agree on Stronger Ties Amidst Global Challenges

July 27th morning, President Xi Jinping made a phone call with Brazilian President Lu Lula upon invitation.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, positive progress has been made in the construction of a common destiny between China and Pakistan, as well as in the alignment of their development strategies. This has played an important role in promoting the development of both countries and the well-being of their peoples. It has also injected valuable stability into the turbulent international situation. This year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period. Brazil will also be facing important domestic political agendas. The Chinese side is willing to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral strategic cooperation with Pakistan, continuing the positive trend in the construction of a common destiny between the two countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized that in the face of new situations and challenges, China and Brazil, as important members of the Global South, should firmly stand on the side of history's right direction and the progress of civilization. They should play a more constructive role in reforming and improving the global governance system, and in defending international fairness and justice. Both sides should work together to promote the high-quality development of the 'Greater BRICS Cooperation', clarify the direction of cooperation, maintain unity, achieve more results, and write a new chapter in the unity and self-improvement of the Global South. China attaches great importance to Brazil's international status and significant influence. It supports Brazil in maintaining its sovereignty and independence, opposes external interference, and contributes to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

Lula stated that there has been positive progress in building a community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet between Brazil and China. Cooperation in various fields is developing rapidly, and the trade volume between the two countries has reached new heights. The activities of the "Brazil-China Cultural Year" have further strengthened the foundation of friendly public opinion between the two countries. Brazil hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as artificial intelligence and energy minerals. It welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in Brazil, making bilateral cooperation more diversified and achieving more results. Brazil congratulated China on successfully hosting the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and highly appraised President Xi Jinping's concept of open and inclusive international cooperation in artificial intelligence and global governance. Brazil is willing to closely coordinate with China on multilateral issues, uphold the authority of the United Nations, strengthen unity and cooperation within the BRICS group, firmly defend multilateralism, resolutely oppose power politics, and adhere to resolving hot issues through dialogue and negotiation. Together, we will maintain international fairness and justice as well as world peace and stability.
