The shooting occurred during a Seattle Food Fest event. The event is held north of the city center and is a free annual event that features numerous food stalls, live music performances, and beer gardens. It has been held for over 40 years.

On the 26th, Seattle Mayor Kati Wilson issued a statement condemning this incident as “a terrifying act of violence”.

Wilson said, “Those affected families are going through the most difficult moments in their lives, and the entire community is trying to understand how a gathering centered on culture, communication, and joy could end with gunshots. No one should consider the potential risk of being shot before attending events, gathering with friends, or enjoying their city life.”
