According to a report by the American CBS Corporation, on July 24 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would impose tariffs on Mexican lettuce due to a parasitic outbreak related to Mexican lettuce.
The video shows that Trump made this decision after a journalist asked a question.
This journalist said: “In nine states in the United States, a parasite causes diarrhea that can be dangerous. When is it safe to eat lettuce?”
I don't know, I haven't even thought about this," Trump said, lettuce coming from Mexico.
He then announced, "What I think we need to do is to impose significant tariffs on Texas, and Mexico, because of lettuce."
Trump also said that he plans to impose tariffs on Canada, “because the smoke from last week’s wildfires has spread into the United States.”
