According to Reuters, a draft decree indicates that Vietnam plans to require social media platforms to prohibit users under 16 from posting content, commenting, or interacting with posts.
The proposed new regulations require that social media accounts for children under 16 years of age must be registered using the information of their parents or legal guardians. The guardians are responsible for monitoring the content that children browse and the duration of time they spend on the platforms.
According to the draft, social media companies must use technical measures to identify minor users and ensure that content tailored to their age is pushed to them.
Besides social media-related controls, this draft also proposed new restrictions on online games for minors.
The terms explicitly require game operators to verify the age of users. Accounts for users under 16 years of age must be registered with the consent of their parents or guardians. Additionally, it is stipulated that children under 16 years of age should not spend a total of more than 60 minutes playing all games under the same game company on any given day.
