On July 23, at the request of US law enforcement agencies, Chinese police returned a U.S.-nationalized fugitive suspected of serious violent crimes in the United States from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to the US authorities. The fugitive was escorted back to his home country by the relevant US law enforcement agencies. This is another example of cooperation between Chinese and US law enforcement agencies.
In 2004, this American fugitive was wanted by US law enforcement authorities for serious violent crimes, including sexual assault of a minor girl and shooting of his wife. In August 2005, the International Criminal Police Organization issued a red notice concerning him. Subsequently, at the request of the US side, the Chinese public security organs conducted thorough investigations and eventually captured him.
To implement the important consensus between the Chinese and American leaders, both sides’ law enforcement agencies have recently carried out a series of practical cooperation in areas such as anti-drug efforts, return of illegal immigrants, pursuit of fugitives, combat against telecommunications fraud, and anti-money laundering. The Chinese police will adhere to the principles of mutual respect and professional pragmatism, deepen practical cooperation with police agencies from various countries, and severely crack down on all types of transnational crimes in accordance with the law.
