In 1990, the Taiwanese authorities established what they called the “Commercial Delegation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Papua New Guinea” at Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. In February 2018, Papua New Guinea requested the delegation to be renamed. In May of the same year, the name was changed to the “Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Papua New Guinea”.
