US Strikes on Iran Extend for Fourth Day Amidst Escalation in Strait of Hormuz

According to a report by the American website The Hill, an American official stated on July 14 that the U.S. military carried out strikes against Iran for the fourth consecutive day, targeting what they called 'new threats' from Tehran.

The United States Central Command stated that the U.S. military “began a new round of strikes against Iran at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on the 14th, in order to continue weakening Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Previously, the U.S. Central Command stated that, following instructions from U.S. President Trump, the U.S. military will resume its maritime blockade of Iran at 4 p.m. Eastern Time on the 14th.

Trump said in an interview with Fox News on the 14th that if Tehran does not return to the negotiating table, "the situation will become very bad next week," and the United States will destroy all of Tehran's power plants and bridges.

"We will fiercely strike them tomorrow evening, and we will fiercely strike them the following night. Then by next week, the situation will become extremely dire for them because power plants will be their turn next week, and bridges will be their turn too." Trump said.

Trump also threatened that the United States' strikes against Iran would continue until he said "enough."

American Cable News Network (CNN) reported that this is not the first time Trump has threatened to target Iranian power plants and bridges, but he has not actually carried out such threats.

Representatives from Iran and the United States are still negotiating, but the Trump administration stated that negotiations cannot progress under the condition that Iran restricts passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran said that the US military carried out an airstrike on Boshar Port, which has Iran's only civilian nuclear power plant, on the 14th. Iran also attacked a US military base within Jordan's territory.
