American Marine Biologist Shot and Killed in the Philippines

According to the Philippine Star newspaper's report on July 14th, at night on the local time of July 12th, Kent Carpenter, a 73-year-old well-known American marine biologist, was shot and killed in his residence in the Philippines.

Local police issued a statement on the 15th, stating that the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. local time on the 12th. At that time, Carpenter was watching TV with his 34-year-old Filipino partner at home when three unidentified men broke into the residence.

One of the gunmen shot Carpenter in the head, causing his immediate death. His Filipino partner was also injured in the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment and being examined by forensic officials.

As of now, three suspects are still at large, and the police have not yet determined the motive for the crime.

According to reports, the police have established a special investigation team to fully investigate the murderer and uncover the truth of the case. It is preliminarily suspected that the motive for the crime may be burglary.

According to the Associated Press, Professor Carpenter is a professor at the University of Old Dominion in the United States. His research focuses on the Philippines and the coral triangle region between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. He is currently conducting long-term research in the Philippines and plans to retire in September.
