According to French newspaper Les Echos, in its annual report released on the 9th, the French High Climate Committee stated that France is not prepared to cope with the impacts of climate change. If climate policies do not undergo significant adjustments, France will face a series of dangerous consequences and severe impacts.
Climatologists and members of the HCC, Delmoret, lamented, "Our actions are moving too slowly, and the impact is limited. We are entering a dangerous phase, with temperatures breaking through 40°C becoming more frequent. According to scientific predictions, by 2050, the frequency of global heatwaves will increase to five times what it is today."
She said, “The current climate is changing rapidly, and there is a very clear disconnect between our efforts to adapt to climate change and the actually surging demands.”
According to reports, the most evident evidence is that France's carbon emissions will decrease even more slowly in 2025, by only 2.1%, while the decrease in 2024 was also only 3%.
The chairman of HCC stated that the current reduction in carbon emissions is largely achieved through technological measures, energy efficiency improvements, and fuel alternatives. The proportion of emissions reduction that is truly achieved by reducing demand, that is, by adopting a low-carbon lifestyle, is extremely low.
In this year’s report, HCC focused on the sustainability of emission reduction achievements. Committee members believe that France has achieved significant reductions in electricity production, but it is difficult to replicate and promote such achievements in other fields. Therefore, France must find new ways to decarbonize.
