On February 28th, the United States and Israel launched military attacks against Iran. The official residence was subjected to air strikes, resulting in the death of Khamenei. From July 4th to 9th, Iran held a state funeral for Khamenei. His body was eventually transported to Khamenei's hometown of Mashhad, where he was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine.

Currently, the ceasefire between the United States and Iran has broken down. The US Central Command stated that on the 7th, American forces carried out a new round of strikes against Iran, targeting over 80 Iranian targets. President Donald Trump said during the NATO summit on the 8th that the US-Iran ceasefire “has ended for me,” and claimed that negotiations with Iran were “a waste of time.”

Iran responded immediately. On the 8th, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that its naval and aerospace forces carried out joint missile and drone operations, striking 85 important U.S. military facilities located in Salman Port, the Bahrain headquarters of the U.S. Fifth Fleet, and the Ali Saleem Air Base in Kuwait.
