Comedian Tang Xiangyu Ordered to Pay Damages for Online Infringement on Eke

According to reports from Cover News and other sources on July 7, the Qichacha app shows that recently, a court released the judgment in the case where comedian Eke (real name Aekbayar Alkhan) sued another comedian, Tang Xiangyu, over online infringement.

The judgment shows that Tang Xiangyu published an article titled “Real-name Resistance, Refusal of Sexual Harassment, Refusal of the Victim Being Inculpable” on December 9, 2023. The article violated the plaintiff’s right to reputation. The court ordered the defendant to delete the infringing article, publish a statement of apology, and compensate the plaintiff for emotional damages and economic losses, totaling 25,000 yuan.

After the judgment took effect, due to Tang Xiangyu still failing to fulfill her obligations regarding apology as stated in the judgment, enforcement was carried out, and the court issued a public judgment in accordance with the law.

This incident dates back three years. In December 2023, a talk show performer revealed that Ek, an actor from the renowned comedy brand "Magic Comedy" in Shanghai, was suspected of taking photos of female actors wearing shorts and making inappropriate comments about them in a group chat. After the incident, Magic Comedy quickly cut ties with Ek, stating that he was not their contracted actor and had no performances at the club. They also announced the termination of all cooperation with him.

The incident has also sparked strong reactions within the stand-up comedy industry. Many stand-up comedians, including Tang Xiangyu, and several domestic clubs have expressed their refusal to cooperate with Eck, calling for boycotting all clubs that continue to work with him. At that time, Tang Xiangyu published a lengthy article titled “Real-name Boycott: Refuse Sexual Harassment, Refuse the Theory That Victims Are Guilty”, in which she admitted that she herself was a victim of sexual harassment and expressed her unwillingness to see similar incidents happen again.

Subsequently, Ek filed a lawsuit against Tang Xiangyu, claiming that she had infringed upon his right of reputation.
