According to reports from the Iranian Student News Agency and other sources on July 8, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran announced on Wednesday that its naval and aerospace forces carried out joint missile and drone operations, striking 85 important U.S. military facilities located in Salaman Port, the Bahrain headquarters of the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, and the Ali Saleem Air Base in Kuwait. In addition, the Revolutionary Guard also downed an MQ-9 drone that attempted to intervene over Khormuj, Bushehr Province, Iran.
Reuters quoted the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as saying that these attacks were "a response to the United States' violation of the ceasefire agreement."
Recently, the United States imposed a new round of sanctions on Iran on the grounds that Iran attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz. It also revoked the permission for Iran to sell crude oil to the global market. This is the second time that the US and Iran have encountered conflict since they signed a memorandum of understanding.
According to AFP reports, the Kuwaiti military posted on social media platform X on Wednesday, stating that "Kuwait's air defense systems are intercepting enemy missiles and drone attacks," but did not specify the source of the attacks.
Air raid warnings are sounding in Kuwait. The military stated that it is responding to "hostile missile and drone attacks," and called on the public to follow the authorities' safety instructions. The Kuwaiti military said any explosions heard across the country were "results of successful interceptions."
Bahrain has also issued an air raid warning. The Interior Ministry of Bahrain has advised the public to remain calm and to seek refuge in nearby safe locations.
