Jewelry Heist Leaves Lille Museum with Estimated Million-Euro Losses

According to AFP and the Sun newspaper, on July 5 local time, the Lille Museum in the Haut-Rhin department in eastern France was burglarized.

According to sources, after entering the museum, the thieves headed straight for the jewelry exhibition area, stealing about 20 pieces of jewelry. “The damage is currently being assessed; it could amount to millions of euros, likely close to 4 million euros (about 31.01 million yuan).”

According to reports, thieves attempted to enter the museum around 5:30 am local time on the 5th, but their attempt was thwarted by an alarm. It is believed that they then tried to enter the building again through an emergency exit and succeeded in sneaking inside.

According to the museum’s website, it will be closed for several days due to this theft incident.

The source mentioned that the alarm did ring, and the first person to arrive at the scene was a female cleaner, who then called the police.

Currently, the police are reviewing surveillance footage as part of their investigation.

According to reports, this museum opened in 2011, displaying works by Renée Lecip, a famous French glass artist and jewelry designer.

In October 2025, a jewelry robbery occurred at the Louvre Museum in France, making the security issues of French museums and art galleries a focus. In less than eight minutes, thieves stole jewelry worth $102 million from the Louvre.
