Not a joke, it’s true!
U.S. President Trump has once again found a new excuse to take control of Greenland. This time, he wants to revitalize American agriculture.
"We can take all the seafood produced in Greenland, eliminating middlemen and preventing imports from China. In this way, you will be able to enjoy ‘unlimited supply’ at American lobster restaurants."
The person who said this is Thomas Dans, the chairman of the American Arctic Research Committee and a financier from Texas.
Recently, an article in the magazine The New Yorker featured a profile of someone who proposed the above “creative” idea.
According to Nanda Morning Post, China is Greenland's second-largest export destination, with trade primarily involving seafood. Seafood accounts for over 90% of Greenland's total exports, and about 15% of the local workforce is employed in this industry. Among these products, shrimp accounts for about half of Greenland's seafood exports.
Since Trump's second term in office, discussions about capturing Greenland have been frequent. The reasoning is that China and Russia use the strategic position of the island to their own advantage, thereby threatening U.S. interests.
China has long pointed out that it urges the US to stop using so-called 'Chinese threat' as an excuse to pursue their own selfish interests.
However, this aggressive statement has drawn condemnation from Denmark and traditional European allies of the United States.
Subsequently, the U.S. government did not take any further action, but the Trump family's visits to the island still sparked controversy from time to time.
Greenland Island will resolutely reject any proposal of "buying islands."
"New York Magazine" reported that Dans was a member of the National Security Council task force, previously undisclosed, during Trump's first term. The task force focused on Greenland affairs.
