Appointed by Russian President Putin, Russian Federation Security Council Vice Chairman Medvedev attended the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Khamenei in Tehran as a presidential envoy on Friday (July 3rd).
According to the Iranian Mehel News Agency, after the ceremony, Medvedev posted a video on Telegram, stating that Russia and the Iranian people mourned Ghanem's death together. He said that this loss has united the Iranian people, and that the Iranian nation will not yield to the pressure of the United States and other countries, and will ultimately win in the struggle against the US.
Medvedev also conveyed the deepest condolences of Putin and the leadership of the Russian Federation, "They, along with the Iranian people, are grieving over this tremendous loss."
According to reports, during the ceremony, Medvedev met with Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. During the meeting, Medvedev conveyed condolences from Putin and the Russian government to the Iranian leader, military commanders, officials, scientists, and civilians, especially to the children who died in the recent attacks by the United States and Israel.
Pezhechiyian thanked the Russian side for their support and condolences after the leader's martyrdom and recent wars, and called for the swift implementation of strategic agreements between the two countries in areas such as trade, economy, energy, and transit transportation.
He said, “The two countries have great potential in economic, commercial, energy, and transit transportation cooperation, and this potential must be realized with greater determination within the framework of existing agreements.”
Pesezhiyan also emphasized the importance of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), and proposed deepening cooperation through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS countries, and the Eurasian Economic Union, in order to expand economic and political ties.
