The New York local police said that Angela Nikolau (33 years old) and Ivan Kuznetsov (32 years old) gained many followers on social media by climbing skyscrapers around the world. At noon that day, they stayed at the top of the Empire State Building, which is about 443 meters above the ground, for a few minutes. Cameras were used to capture the entire process, and they then descended.

This seems to be a well-planned proposal, which ended in both parties being arrested.

A police spokesman told AFP: "Both individuals have been arrested. There were no accidents during the process, and no reports of injuries. The charges are still pending, and the investigation is ongoing."

According to the police, both individuals face several charges, including criminal vandalism, illegal intrusion, and disturbance of public order.

This couple's adventurous actions attracted many passersby to watch.

The Empire State Building has viewing platforms open to the public, from which one can enjoy the magnificent views of New York. However, climbing to higher levels is strictly prohibited.

The spokesperson for the Empire State Building described the climb as an “unauthorized incident,” implying that the couple should have chosen to plan their proposal at the observation deck using the $1,000 “Happy Empire Proposal Package” they offered.

Reuters reported that Nikolayu's father is the Russian circus artist Dmitri Nikolayu.

I think that in any country, including the United States, climbing roofs is normal as long as it's done according to any constitution, “he replied when asked if he was concerned about his daughter’s safety. “Why should I be worried? I climb roofs myself.”
