Chinas Vice Chairman to Attend Khamenei Funeral in Iran

According to a report on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on July 2, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced:

The Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, He Wei, will represent China at the funeral of Iran's late supreme leader, Khamenei, which will take place in Tehran on July 3.

According to the Anadolu News Agency in Turkey, reported on July 1st local time, the Grand Mozara Mosque in the center of Tehran is preparing for the funeral of Ahmadinejad.

According to reports, the official international mourning ceremony in Iran is scheduled to take place on July 3 local time. Headlines of countries, senior officials, and religious leaders are expected to attend. The public funeral ceremony is scheduled to begin at local time on the 4th. Participants will gather at the Darmoshar Mosque at 6 a.m. that day to observe a one-minute silence and express their grief.

According to Khamenei’s wishes upon his death and the advice of his relatives, Iran plans to bury his remains at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad on July 9 local time.

Hameney was killed in an Israeli-American air strike on February 28. According to Reuters, Islamic teachings require that the dead be buried as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours after death. However, exceptions are allowed, such as during wartime.
