The Russian Embassy in Sweden posted an announcement on the social platform "Telegram" stating that the embassy was attacked by a drone at 2:00 am local time on the 2nd.
A quadrotor drone dropped a container painted red near the Russian embassy area. Another drone, carrying a mock-up explosive device, crashed in an area near the main building of the embassy.
The Russian Embassy in Sweden stated that this situation indicates that the incident is not just an act of provocation, but a attempt to intimidate Russian diplomats. "We clearly state our position: such plots will never succeed."
The embassy stated that similar incidents have become regular occurrences in this region. According to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Swedish government is obligated to ensure the inviolability and security of foreign diplomatic agencies within Sweden. However, in reality, the Swedish law enforcement authorities only formally record attacks against the Russian embassy. There have been dozens of such provocative incidents, and despite more than two years of investigation, no results have been obtained.
The Russian Embassy in Sweden stated that, in this context, responsibility for any ongoing attacks against Russian diplomatic missions and all potential consequences arising therefrom shall lie with the Swedish side.
