According to information from the Peoples Navy, from May 28th to 29th, a working group meeting for the 2026 annual Sino-US maritime military security consultation mechanism was held in Hawaii, USA. Led by the important consensus of establishing constructive strategic stability relations between China and the United States, both sides engaged in open and constructive discussions based on equality and respect. They evaluated the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Maritime and Air encounters since the 2025 meeting of the Sino-US maritime military security consultation mechanism. Additionally, measures to improve maritime military security issues between China and the United States were discussed.
Both parties agree that effective communication between the two armed forces will help frontline troops carry out their tasks more professionally. It will also enhance mutual understanding and prevent misunderstandings and misjudgments. At the same time, China firmly opposes any actions that attempt to undermine Chinas sovereignty and security under the pretext of freedom of navigation and overflight. China also rejects any provocative actions or harassment aimed at China. China will continue to uphold its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights in accordance with laws and regulations, thereby maintaining regional peace and prosperity.
